[OOL] I'm planning on getting Optimum internet next month

This will be my first time buying internet. I'm planning to buy internet only, optimum 400 it's what I'm looking at. I checked the pricing and packages and I'm confused what's the difference between optimum online vs optimum 400? Optimum Online Life moves fast and so should your internet. That's why Optimum has internet speeds for every digital lifestyle. Packages Per month Optimum 10 $24.95 Optimum 20 $29.99 Optimum Online $64.95 Additional Modem(s) $49.95 each Optimum 200 $20.00 additional per month Optimum 300 $55.00 additional per month Optimum 400 $55.00 additional per month I will buy my own modem and router, I need help selecting which modem to get, I'm a heavy gamer (PS4, PC)

[OOL] Internet speed deals...

Optimum is really trying to get me to raise my speed from 100. At the Upgrades page on optimum.net, they're offering 200 for just $10 (instead of the book rate $20). Then I got an email today offering 400 for $15, including a free Google Home assistant. The catch(es) for 400? Advertised speed is described as for "wired connections only, Wi-fi speeds vary", I have to agree to auto-pay/paperless and the fine print says 400d/35u, meaning no increase of upload speed from my 100/35. Neither offer gives a term duration, so it could be 1 year, 2 years, who knows - then the price could go up to the full $55 and 100 could very well be unavailable by then. I understand that the vast majority of customers are concerned about download speed as they add more devices to their home networks, and that's fine. But as someone who works full-time from home, I'd prefer an increase in upload speed. I know I won't see fiber any time soon (and I'd have to move to another town for FiOS to be an option), but I'd accept a D3.1 offering of 150/50 or 200/60 in a New York minute. Anyone else getting these discounted speed upgrade offers?

[OOL] My renewal deal (internet only)

My current new customer promotion was about to expire. I have 200Mbit internet only (my own modem) for which I paid $34.94 for a year ($5/month credit because I was lied by chat agent that installation will be free and it wasn't). Regular price would be $65 or $70 so I called 1-866-200-7273 and told CSR that I am happy with OOL service but FIOS 200/200 is available for me for $40/month for the first year and asked whether they can match that. This is what I was given (I received a confirmation email): Optimum Online $64.95 Optimum 200 $10.00 Network Enhancement Fee $2.50 Network Enhancement Fee $1.00 Extra Discount $-44.96 Total monthly recurring charges: $33.49 She also said there will be some small amount of tax but even then it will probably still be less than FIOS and I don't have to switch providers. This price is supposed to be valid for the next 2 years. I will report in several weeks if my service doesn't renew as promised.

[OOL] Should I lock in internet only price?

Hey all, Curious of your opinions. I've decided to do one of the internet only plans from optimum and do the 'lock in' promotion at either 200 or 300 speed. Right now, I'm single, will be streaming 4k content, no gaming (probably), just some torrent downloading and browsing apart from that. From my research, 200 is more than ample for that. However, do you think I should go for the higher speed in anticipation of higher speeds being needed down the road? (say 7+ years?) for streaming and what not? The next big streaming technology might be 8k tv's, which depending on what you read would require 50-100mbps to stream, ONCE they're affordable, and ONCE there's content, and IF its worth it. But anyway - if able to lock in at $49 for 200, or $59 for 300, what would you advise? Thanks. :)

Showtime SD channels

i noticed recently that all of the Showtime SD channels are now 16:9 instead of 4:3. this is an improvement over the previous method of display where i had to manually "zoom" to fit the letterbox screen on my display from the cable box. in addition, there is a slight improvement over the quality of the picture as a result of this change. kudos to Showtime for making this change. although it is still SD and pale in comparison to HD, it is a marked improvement.

[OOL] Wired Ethernet slower than 5GHz Wifi?

I am a new Optimum customer. The Altice One box which serves as modem and WiFi and router has strange behaviour. The 200 Mb internet service I have is only during connection to the 5GHz WiFi network. The 2.4 GHz network is about 40 Gb or less. Even a wired connection to the router only yields an approximate 40 Gb connection using multiple speed test sites. Is anyone familiar with this? When I called about this, the agent tells me that the Altice One boxes have had their share of complaints but couldn't tell me if this was related. He also said they were deploying a newer box. I don't know if that's for new customers or even fairly new (one week) like me. Thanks

I saw the gold package is slated to go away in September and Premier will replace. Any idea if that means premier will now include Cinemax and other channels only on gold now? Interesting that you can order Premier with price set for life now.

Anyone know if Milford CT is getting wired soon? I had neigh ors say they spoke to someone about running Fiber, and they need to move the pole in front of their house. But they didn't say who was running the fiber. Could be either Verizon (we dont have that in my area yet) or Altice. Any ideas who I can check with or find out more from? Thanks for all the info above, super informative.

[TV] Sanyo tv and Altice remote

It seems there's a problem with Sanyo tvs and the Altice Remote. The remote doesn't work with the tv's. when you try to program the remote the homestore or store display menu comes up and scans for channels and there is no way to shut it off, you have to let it run through. Is there any kind of work around to this? Did the Optimum tech no know what he was doing? Although he seemed to be knowledgable about the problem, maybe he just didn't know how to fix it? Maybe entering the actual code instead of doing a code search would work? Does anyone know if the older silver remotes work with the newer sanyos? (the ones w/ the IO button in the middle). I had an old 27" sanyo CRT TV and the old remotes worked fine with it for 20 years. I"m asking all this because this is for my mother. she's 75 and forgets a lot and having two remotes will confuse her. If she accidentally changes the channel she'll have no idea how to get back to the right channel.

I'm getting 1/4 page advertisements from Dexter that is ruining my surfing experience. I get these adds telling me I have free stuff but I don't get the channels. How do I stop this? I pay $1,600 a year and should not be treated like a cow to be milked. Even the cow gets free hay.

GRE encapsulation issues (Pulling my hair out)

Ok, I've been fried on this issue for over a week and find myself pulling at straws. So I've got a Cisco core router which has a series of non-ipsec GRE tunnels running to end offices, including my optimum connection. Only the GRE tunnel to my optimum business is having issues, where: The first 2 GRE encapsulated packets destined for the public IP of my optimum are coming through (as the public from/to encapsulating the private range); however additional packets in the sequence show the private range as the from/to for the GRE packet. e.g.: 17:24:59.013570 IP > : GREv0, length 104: IP 172.16.100.1 > 172.16.100.2: ICMP echo request, id 251, seq 0, length 80 17:25:01.015148 IP > : GREv0, length 104: IP 172.16.100.1 > 172.16.100.2: ICMP echo request, id 251, seq 1, length 80 17:25:03.014459 IP 172.16.100.1 > 172.16.100.2: GREv0, length 104: IP 172.16.100.1 > 172.16.100.2: ICMP echo request, id 251, seq 2, length 80 17:25:05.015657 IP 172.16.100.1 > 172.16.100.2: GREv0, length 104: IP 172.16.100.1 > 172.16.100.2: ICMP echo request, id 251, seq 3, length 80 17:25:07.017194 IP 172.16.100.1 > 172.16.100.2: GREv0, length 104: IP 172.16.100.1 > 172.16.100.2: ICMP echo request, id 251, seq 4, length 80 This causes GRE to break. I haven't found an issue related to MTU size because these are small individual packets. The only idea I have left is that Optimum Online is somehow shaping/interfering with the packets. Any ideas?

[OOL] OOL Shut Off Service For Three Days, Won?t Forward to Repair

This was a rude surprise. My account def up-to-date, no issue there. About 2 hours ago internet dropped. Modem lights looked like it still had signal. Then half hour later, modem dropped carrier, lights and modem maint web page show there’s no signal. Called OOL customer service and the usual call center hell was gone, and only a single menu with an announcement about scheduled maintenance, and the last prompt was press 1 if you still need to speak with an agent, or call back on September fourth. I could barely hear the agent (“Mike”) who answered, but the routine was not the usual badger routine, just inexperienced and has no access to anything to help. OOL customer service agent refused to take a trouble report, refused to put through any credits for service being out, said he had no way to connect to my modem and can’t do anything, and then said that I will have to call back September 4. OOL agent didn’t get that right, either, since the call center greeting said their system would be unavailable THROUGH September 4. Obviously no way to escalate, since Cablevision’s entire phone system appears to be bypassed, and there’s no one to escalate to. OOL and cable service here in NNJ has always been bad, but never this bad. BTW, I also asked the agent about cable TV problems. He said cable TV customers are getting the same instructions. Too bad if you have no service, call back (after) September 4.

Has Altice / Optimum been hacked?

Phone system down for days Website down for days Webmail down etc Its 2019, no serious company has an outage like this for regular maintenance. Were they hacked??? Or just that inept they can't handle a migration quickly with little downtime (and if downtime, at an off-peak time).

News 12 "As Local as Local News Gets"?? Not really, anymore

I know back when the Dolans & Cablevision ran Optimum, News 12 was a major selling point. It was the only thing I missed when I switched to Fios almost 10 years ago. However I am subject to watching News 12 Long Island in many establishments, and have noticed changes right off the bat when Altice took over, and those changes have became very pronounced this year. Many of the senior anchors like Lea Tyrell, and now Colleen McVey, have retired (probably not by choice) and replaced with younger, blonde anchors. The news has much less of a local feel and is more like watching CNN. Often they do not even lead with local news stories, as is the case the past few days. Instead, it's mostly canned National news stories, rarely do they even send reporters to cover a local news story (most have probably been laid off)and usually just have canned video and about 10-20 seconds of voiceover. It used to feel like a neighborhood newscast, but now, it feels like they are gearing to a more urban, finance based demographic. Altice probably feels they can get away with cutting News 12's staff down to the bone, while trying to fool people that they are still covering local news. But I think people are noticing, and many folks have kept Optimum because of News 12, are now finally looking at other options (Fios). This will come back & bite Altice in the end as they lose more subscribers. Fios isn't perfect, and some aggravation last month regarding 2 separate occasions where my service was interrupted, accidentally, for about a day each, almost had me think of going back to Optimum, but I have had much more reliable service with Fios overall. Now with News 12 pretty much a shell of it's former self, what advantage can Optimum really have? It may be cheaper in the beginning, but to me, everything else is worse. And I refuse to give my business to a foreign company (which is what Altice is). It is a shame what has happened to News 12 (still baffled how they still get awards) I can't stand all the National News and anchor changes. If people wanted to watch CNN, they would put on CNN. Being that Long Island (as well as Connecticut, Westchester, and New Jersey) are often their own unique places that are ignored by NYC based TV stations, you would think that Altice would realize how important that was. The Dolans sure did. I know there was some lawsuit about it (Altice went back on some kind of agreement on News 12 staffing levels) but haven't heard anything since. At this point I feel News 12 should become an independent entity perhaps run by Hearst under contract to Altice. As an example of why this is important, one only has to look at Saturday night's severe storms and the lack of any reporting by News 12 Connecticut, Westchester, or New Jersey about people who had to be rescued from their cars due to the floods, or the many hundreds stuck on Metro-North trains due to storm related power outages. Perhaps when people start getting rid of their Optimum and Altice sees their subscriber counts plummet (esp in areas where Fios is available) will they pay attention.

[OOL] Frequent speed drops / Optimum 400 / North Haven-Sag Harbor

Moved into my new house in North Haven in November 2018. New construction so new underground wiring to the pole. Got connected to Optimum 400. First Network in the house was a Luxul Epic 4 router with 3 access points and wifi controller. WAN1 is Optimum, WAN2 is T-Mobile on failover. Lots of failover reports from the router, basically speed on Optimum would drop below a usable rate (2 MBPS down) and then the router would switch to WAN2. Switch back in most instances in less than 1 minute. For the failover, 3 pings have to be bad. Ping is on the Optimum server. At times the speed would drop up to 40 times per day. Switched the modem, same results, switched out the network system from Luxul to Unify (USG-Pro, 5 APs, etc), also with the same failover from WAN1 to WAN2. Same problem, sometimes up to 40 times a day, the speed on WAN1 would drop down to below 2 MBPS. Called Optimum, service appointment, guy measured everything, all fine, my modem hadn't dropped in 45 days as per their records and logs. So the modem stays connected but the speeds drop significantly. I connected a computer straight to the modem to check every 10 minutes for 7 days. Same results as the log from my Unifi router, frequent speed drops below 2 MBPS down, and 0.1 MBPS up. At this point I can rule out, the issue is within my house or equipment, but when calling Optimum, they do their measuring and say all is good. Which is not. Does anybody have an idea how to tackle that issue with Optimum. Also, when it's raining, the issue appears much more frequently leading me to believe the issue is somewhere with the street side equipment. Any input or insight is appreciated!

[OOL] modem or OOL issue?

I switched from Fios to OOL back in July for better TV programing and it’s been a bit of a disappointment this time around. So now requesting some guidance from the folks in the know as to if you guys think it’s a modem issue or the service itself? I took screen shot of the modem when our connection went down today around 1200 EST and also copied the event log from that time period. I know zero about modem stats or the log file so based on the attached modem information for the Netgear CM600 is there enough here to make the call if it’s the service or modem? To get it back online I simply went into the modem’s web interface and rebooted from there and it reconnected right away. that was easy enough to do but we shouldn’t have had to reboot it in the first place… Any thoughts? thanks in advance XTime Priority Description 2019-08-15, 11:56:38 Critical (3) Received Response to Broadcast Maintenance Request, But no Unicast Maintenance opportunities received - T4 time out;CM-MAC=xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx;CMTS-MAC=00:01:5c:73:9c:61;CM-QOS=1.1;CM-VER=3.0; 2019-08-15, 11:52:18 Critical (3) Started Unicast Maintenance Ranging - No Response received - T3 time-out;CM-MAC=xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx;CMTS-MAC=00:01:5c:73:9c:61;CM-QOS=1.1;CM-VER=3.0; 2019-08-15, 11:52:06 Critical (3) Started Unicast Maintenance Ranging - No Response received - T3 time-out;CM-MAC=xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx;CMTS-MAC=00:01:5c:73:9c:61;CM-QOS=1.1;CM-VER=3.0; 2019-08-15, 11:52:06 Critical (3) Unicast Maintenance Ranging attempted - No response - Retries exhausted;CM-MAC=xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx;CMTS-MAC=00:01:5c:73:9c:61;CM-QOS=1.1;CM-VER=3.0; 2019-08-15, 11:52:06 Critical (3) 16 consecutive T3 timeouts while trying to range on upstream channel 2;CM-MAC=xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx;CMTS-MAC=00:01:5c:73:9c:61;CM-QOS=1.1;CM-VER=3.0; 2019-08-15, 11:51:46 Critical (3) Started Unicast Maintenance Ranging - No Response received - T3 time-out;CM-MAC=xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx;CMTS-MAC=00:01:5c:73:9c:61;CM-QOS=1.1;CM-VER=3.0; 2019-08-15, 11:51:46 Critical (3) Unicast Maintenance Ranging attempted - No response - Retries exhausted;CM-MAC=xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx;CMTS-MAC=00:01:5c:73:9c:61;CM-QOS=1.1;CM-VER=3.0; 2019-08-15, 11:51:46 Critical (3) 16 consecutive T3 timeouts while trying to range on upstream channel 3;CM-MAC=xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx;CMTS-MAC=00:01:5c:73:9c:61;CM-QOS=1.1;CM-VER=3.0; 2019-08-15, 06:29:50 Critical (3) Started Unicast Maintenance Ranging - No Response received - T3 time-out;CM-MAC=xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx;CMTS-MAC=00:01:5c:73:9c:61;CM-QOS=1.1;CM-VER=3.0;

I got to work this morning and while I was sitting in my car I checked my iPhone WiFi settings and noticed an "AlticeWiFi" SSID with a little lock icon like OptimumWifi_Passpoint displays.
