[OOL] Pleasant Surprise

After being a Verizon Fios subscriber for 11 years we moved to a new Co-OP which is only serviced by OOL. I wasn't looking forward to using OOL and was really sorry about losing FIOS. Before I get into the OOL installation, I would like to give you some background. After returning from military service in 1969, I was hired by New Your Telephone as an Installer; spending 32 years installing home, business services, switchboards, and data equipment. I worked in Brooklyn and Nauuas County. While working in Nassau, I observed the "Cablevision Contract labor Staff" and was not very impressed with the quality of their work or the safety practices they observed. Being paid by the job tends to make contractors run with the mindset of "Slam Bam, Thank You, Mam". Which usually results in a sloppy job. Six months after retiring from Verizon, being bored and looking for work, I ended up in Cablevision's TSG Group, which is their tier one support (phone monkey at the help desk). I found their operation pretty to be very chaotic and focused on the 10-minute scripted call and pick up another call. The service was not customer orientated but was geared to managing call volume. During this time the first generation of OV service came out, which became its own problem due to growing pains. After two years "on the phones", I was promoted to the "Com Desk" which Supports the back end of all Cablevision services, there was joyfully no customer contact. Leaving Cablevision after 4.5 years my overall opinion of them was negative. So with my installation set for 10/3, I was expecting some "Contractor" in an unmarked van with a ladder tied to the roof. My Co-Op is prewired so there would be no need to run coax. The installer arrived on time, in a marked van, explained the job, installed two boxes, and a modem. After testing everything, he was gone in 25 minutes, with a $20 tip. The service is good, the picture quality is excellent and all is well. What do you know about that! :)

[help] Need help troubleshooting internet connection

$

Ever since the big outage that occurred about one month ago or so, I've been having intermittent internet connectivity at home. I had my own modem which was an Arris TM822 which up to that point had been working just fine for years. The issues were occurring even when I took the wireless router out of the equation. I went through a bunch of troubleshooting with Optimum Support and they basically said they'd charge me if the issue turned out to be my own equipment. So in hopes of doing some cheap troubleshooting I rented a cable modem from them. Same exact model and everything worked just fine for the 1-2 weeks I had it. I asked around these forums and was told that I could actually get any cable model if all I had was OOL. Here's the thread for reference: https://www.dslreports.com/forum/r32528978-OOL-Where-can-I-buy-recommended-OOL-cable-modems I was linked to this review: https://thewirecutter.com/reviews/best-cable-modem/ I was ecstatic because the cable modem I wanted to get from Arris was not currently in stock so I was having trouble finding it officially. I could go through Ebay I found out later but when I found out I could possibly get an even better modem for less money I went with that option. I went with the Motorola MB7621 modem. I got it activated and everything seemed to be working fine the first night initially. Speed tests checked out at: Ping: 10ms Download: 386.74 Mbps Upload: 39.42 Mbps Everything was looking fine so I thought. But the next day I started noticing the abrupt internet drops. I mean I couldn't even ping something as simple as 8.8.8.8. I've tried taking my router out of the equation and I just don't know what to do now. Is the issue the modem? It was brand new off Amazon. Here's a screenshot of my current modem's connection stats: https://i.imgur.com/h6cZuxU.png Event logs: https://i.imgur.com/VLQMGTe.png I'm not sure if that's good or not. There is an option to set Downstream Frequency Setting. I'm not sure what to set that to if anything at all. And there is a log page where I do see some errors but I can't quite make out what they mean. I'm reluctant to lease another cable modem from Optimum at this point. But I'm also wondering if something weird is going on in my neighborhood or if it's specifically happening because I'm using my own modem. Does anyone have any addition troubleshooting steps? I still can probably return this cable modem at this point and I'm willing to do just that if necessary in place of another modem.

When I use the Search feature on the iO remote for my Samsung box, I can usually find listings for almost 2 weeks. Basically, just type in a number or name of program/ channel and you get results. Apparently, this has stopped. I tried searching this morning for a few titles and nothing popped up on search. I know that these shows are airing within the 2 week timeframe. I guess the Search feature is broken. And yes, I rebooted my box to no avail.

About Optimum Online

Hi. I have few questions about OOL. Do they still put a cap on your downloading/uploading speed if you download/upload too much? Since a cable connection is shared between neighbors, will my uploading/downloading speed become significantly reduced if too many of of my neighbors on OOL are downloading/uploading at the same time? Currently, I am on Verizon dsl, but I am considering switching to OOL because they promise 35 Mbit/sec of uploading speed. (And I am unable to get FIOS in my building).

[OOL] The Arris SB6183 and the various Optimum speed tiers.

Hey folks. I guess I need a bit of advice. Last year I purchased the SB6183 from Amazon in the hopes of saving the $10 a month modem fee. Never got around to installing it (don't ask). I kinda just forgot. I'm currently in the 200 speed tier. I'm looking at the "Internet Upgrades" section of my account and it appears that I can get the Optimum 400 for $15 more. It's awfully tempting. Do I need faster? Probably not. Do I want it? Hell yeah. The box states that this modem can do 686 Mbps. I suppose in theory it can indeed handle it. In practice? No clue. My question is this: shall I give the 400 a go using this modem? If not, what's the recommended choice? Or should I stick with the 200 and be content saving the 10 bucks a month? My instinct tells me to get a better modem if I go with the 400. If I do that, what the flip am I going to do with the 6183? is eBay really the best route? It's still sealed but I doubt I'll get what I paid for it (well, cause I ain't Amazon and don't really have any feedback as a seller). The tech I just chatted with says this modem should handle it, but honestly, I trust the members of this forum a hell of a lot more. I'm open to other suggestions, too (FIOS is available, for example). Also... I'm not sure if I'm reading the "Pricing & Packages" section correctly. Currently I'm paying $60 (should be 65 but I also have TV). Optimum 200 is a $20 add on. It's currently $92.45 including rental and fees. Looking at the pricing chart, its says OOL $64.95, but Optimum 400 is an additional $55 per month. So it would be over $130 including rental and fees (yes, I know I'll be using my own modem, but I'm comparing to my current bill). Adding $15 for the 400 to my current 92.45 brings it to $107.45. What's with the discrepancy? Also kind of odd that the 300 and 400 cost exactly the same. Thanks so much, guys. Truly appreciated.

One of the reasons I signed up with Optimum was the fact that I'd be getting a $200 gift card. I made sure to comply with all of the terms, even signing up for auto-pay to ensure that they got their money on time. When it came time to receive the card, I was told I was not eligible. After careful research on their part, they determined my eligibility was canceled because I had made a change to my service. I upgraded the internet service to a higher speed, but this should never have altered my eligibility. They admitted they were in the wrong and my account was "coded incorrectly". Since July, I have called optimum 25 times, and written three letters to the CEO and the customer experience department. I have never gotten a response from my letters, and each phone call was met with a different answer, none of which proved true. Finally someone called me back to tell me there was nothing they could do! Nothing! They admitted that they made a mistake, but no one could figure out how to solve it. They made me a offer of $10 off a month for a year, but that would only total $120 where as my gift card was worth 200. I give up. They've beaten me! I've invested so many hours into this failed effort, and they have beaten me! It's their loss, because I'm leaving Optimum to pay a bit more at Verizon, but there's no way I can stay with them, on principle. It's so amazingly frustrating to receive such horrid customer service. Here I am, a customer who does exactly the right thing..... But gets screwed with no recourse.

[OOL] Continuing issues with connectivity on internet

Hello, I am on the 300mb tier however for at least a month I will be lucky to get 40mb. Unable to work from home as connection drops and resets every few minutes. I have been using my own modem for almost a year and have not had issues. I call support and ping tests are fine. My neighbors report similar issues. Site visit on Thursday. What should I expect? FYI, today I had about 15 dropped connections in two hours. Really bad for my job. Lose chatting, video call drops, and emails never leaving outbox. Today factory reset on Modem (TP-Link TC-7650) and on the Optimum Smart Router. Get almost 100mb but still have connection issues

Moved into my new house in North Haven in November 2018. New construction so new underground wiring to the pole. Got connected to Optimum 400. First Network in the house was a Luxul Epic 4 router with 3 access points and wifi controller. WAN1 is Optimum, WAN2 is T-Mobile on failover. Lots of failover reports from the router, basically speed on Optimum would drop below a usable rate (2 MBPS down) and then the router would switch to WAN2. Switch back in most instances in less than 1 minute. For the failover, 3 pings have to be bad. Ping is on the Optimum server. At times the speed would drop up to 40 times per day. Switched the modem, same results, switched out the network system from Luxul to Unify (USG-Pro, 5 APs, etc), also with the same failover from WAN1 to WAN2. Same problem, sometimes up to 40 times a day, the speed on WAN1 would drop down to below 2 MBPS. Called Optimum, service appointment, guy measured everything, all fine, my modem hadn't dropped in 45 days as per their records and logs. So the modem stays connected but the speeds drop significantly. I connected a computer straight to the modem to check every 10 minutes for 7 days. Same results as the log from my Unifi router, frequent speed drops below 2 MBPS down, and 0.1 MBPS up. At this point I can rule out, the issue is within my house or equipment, but when calling Optimum, they do their measuring and say all is good. Which is not. Does anybody have an idea how to tackle that issue with Optimum. Also, when it's raining, the issue appears much more frequently leading me to believe the issue is somewhere with the street side equipment. Any input or insight is appreciated!

Hey everyone, Wondering if anyone can help me out here before I call and try to get a third technician out here. Take a look at the status on my TM1602; https://gyazo.com/dc8106d048bdb4a4527578ddf89e27dc I'm not very savvy when it comes to this, I looked around and compared mine to other people having issues and notice my "Uncorrectables" are much higher then any of the other ones I've seen but the system uptime is 39d so maybe its nothing?. I also noticed that the Power reported is much higher, Is there something wrong with my modem or my line? On speedtest hardwired to the modem i'm getting anywhere between 5Mbps - 180Mbps at any given time. Any help is appreciated, I hope I just need to buy a new modem or something like that.

Paying Too Much For Fios..time to give Optimum another chance?

I've been a Verizon Fios customer since it arrived in Nassau County over 8 years ago. I've been fairly satisfied with my service overall despite 2 problems this summer (had weekly outages when I had Optimum) however here I am using the same STB, same router, and paying much, much more than when I started. My bill is now up to $172 a month, and today I called to see if I can get it lower now that my most recent 2 year contract ended. They didn't seem too interested, even after I told them I was going to switch to Optimum. They say I have the most basic internet package (100/100), phone, and 2nd up from basic TV. They said the only way I could save money and keep my 3 services is to downgrade the TV but then I'd lose the Weather Channel (after we just got it back) and it would still only save me $8. The only extra I have that I need is DVR. But with my 8 year STB it can only do 2 shows at once. I'm paying them $140 something before taxes, after taxes it's $170 something. For years my bill was fairly stable between $110-$130 a month, but this is getting to be too much. I've seen Optimum offering $84.99 "for life" I'm sure that doesn't include taxes and fees, but I assume it would still be drastically lower than what I pay now. I do worry about reliability, and am confused if I should go with the new Altice one box or ask for one of the Samsungs. I don't need premium TV, just my locals, news/info channels (weather, discovery, science, smithsonian, nat geo, etc), and the music service (which I know is Stingray instead of Music Choice). As for Internet 100 is plenty, I dont do any gaming, just watch and upload videos (youtube) and go to weather sites. Anyway would appreciate any advice.

[TV] Optimum (Altice) in NJ Channel 150 (Motor Trend TV) NO GO

I have 3 cable cards for 12+ years, 1 with a HD Home Run Prime (HDHR3-CC) and 2 TiVo's. Occasionally, I will lose Channel 150 on any of the cards. For the most part, all has been stable for well over a year. In the beginning of September this year I had Channel 150 (MTRHD) lost on the HD Home Run Prime. After 4 support calls and then escalation to Executive Management, the tech fixed it in 30 seconds. This week, same thing, however I spent 4+ hours, 14 different techs, re-bind, etc., etc., etc., no luck. However by doing whatever it is they do they also screwed up Channel 150 on 1 of the TiVo's, it too lost Channel 150 (only the one channel). So now 2 devices, both no Channel 150. I re-scan, re-scan, they re-bind, re-bind, no good. TiVo's says "V58 Error" needs authorization, HD Home Run says "Unable to play channel" (sometimes, otherwise only black screen on that channel), ONLY ON CHANNEL 150, ALL OTHERS WORK 100%. ALL DEVICES WORK. 2 techs come out, 1st one changes connections, tests lines, spend 1+ hours, still no difference. He sends a 2nd tech later in the day, he's here 1+ hours, re-bind, re-scan 5, 6 times, 2 different cable cards, same thing. However, the TiVo comes back, Channel 150 works on 2 TiVo's devices, not on the HD Home Run. Case gets escalated to "Resolution Specialists" at Optimum, another 30 minutes, no go, re-bind, etc., etc. So, the question is: If only 1 channel is a problem on 1 device what could be the problem? Part of diagnostics state: 20191013-23:33:04 CableCARD: tuner0 150 MTRHD (auto:79MHz-727) access = subscribed 20191013-23:46:12 Tuner: tuner0 http stream ended (remote closed) 20191014-01:35:03 UPnP: tcp unexpected close (soap_service_connection:76) 20191014-01:35:03 UPnP: transaction did not complete 11 (soap_service_connection:50)

Decades TV has returned to NYC via OTA on Channel 5.5 WNYW Fox is now carrying it as one of its sub channels. According to the Decades channel guide, Comcast & FIOS to be carrying it soon as well. Altice/Optimum is not listed yet or Spectrum out of NYC. I'm sure people on here will say it was a useless channel, but it must have value to have been picked up again.
